2. I have just bought this new Equium A200 laptop and the Equium A200 battery runs out really quick - in under 1 hr. I have to permanently keep it plugged into the mains to keep its performance.

The laptop battery life time depends on the notebook usage! So it’s not easy to say how long the notebook should run on battery power.
However, if you want to run the notebook a little bit longer using the battery then, you could buy a stronger battery which provides more power for a longer time…
You should take a look at the mA value; the higher the better
Furthermore please don’t forget that the installed Vista OS needs more power as a early OS like XP.
The Vista needs more power because it wastes more computer resources.
I read that an same notebook would run 2 times longer on battery power with preinstalled W2K or XP.

I have the 9-cell ibm battery with the T60 being reviewed. It adds a bit of weight over the standard 6-cell thinkpad t60 battery and sticks out but if you want close to 4 hours of battery life with the 15″ screen model you’ll need this size. In using the T60 without Wi-Fi and at medium brightness (3rd notch of 7) it got 3 hours 42 minutes of battery life when used lightly (typing review, or idling). You can expect to get over 3 hours with Wi-Fi on and finishing a DVD with the 9-cell ibm thinkpad t60 battery shouldn’t be a problem, well, unless it’s Lord of the Rings.
The T60 14″ screen size will do much better in terms of time of ibm laptop battery life per cell because a smaller screen just drains less battery. My guess is the 6-cell battery for the T60 14″ will get you about what the 9-cell t60 battery does for the 15″ — again, that’s just a mildly educated guess.

Never expose the battery pack to direct sunlight. Never store or use the battery pack in an unventilated vehicle where excessive internal temperatures may be encountered.
Always keep the battery pack out of reach of infants or small children.
Never drop or throw the Inspiron 1501 Battery pack.
If the liquid contained within the battery pack leaks, use large amounts of water an immediately wash off any liquid which may accidentally contact any part of the body. Remove any liquid that has contacted your clothes by washing them immediately with a synthetic detergent.

If you ever detect the emission of an extraordinary odor or leakage of alkaline solution or other electrolytic substance, stop usage and dispose of properly.
Never dispose of used battery packs with other ordinary solid wastes, since they contain toxic substances. Cover the metal terminals with insulating tape in order to prevent accidental short-circuiting when disposing of the battery.

Dell Inspiron 1501 Review & Dell Inspiron 1501 Battery
Dell introduced its first AMD based system, the Inspiron 1501, about half a year ago, which has become one of the best selling notebooks in its economic segment. The Inspiron 1501 is a low-cost version of the top selling Inspiron 6400/e1505 series to keep budget-minded customers happy. While both systems are quite similar, there are some noticeable differences between them. For example, the e1505 has media buttons and specially dedicated media software. In addition, the 1501 does not feature some technologies, such as a dedicated video card or 802.11n. Most potential buyers could consider the 1501 as a less expensive option.

The PC was able to play DVD for a bit more than two hours. All in all, inspiron 1501 battery performance was really good.
By the way, there is no need to turn the computer on if you want to check dell battery status. Simply press the red button on the dell 1501 battery and LEDs will inform you about charge remaining (short press) and inspiron 1501 battery health (5 sec or longer press).
